In her new series of still life and abstract paintings Lucy Reitzfeld continues
to explore the color sensations and patterning she sees and feels in everyday
life. Over the past year she has moved back and forth between painting distinctively
patterned floral still lives and small geometric abstractions. Both types of
painting express her visual world.
“All realistic painting has elements of abstraction,” says Reitzfeld.
The small geometric paintings came from an interest in expressing color relationships
in its purest form. Some are informed by the landscapes and gardens she’s
painted over the years, some
from the studio setups. Each painting is built up over time as the color weaves
in and out and new strokes cover old.
